Saprophytes
Τα Σαπρόφυτα είναι ένα συλλογικό καλλιτεχνικό πρόγραμμα (project) που επικεντρώνεται στην εύρεση, στην επεξεργασία και στη συρραφή προϋπάρχοντας υλικού το οποίο βρίσκεται σε κατάσταση εννοιολογικής αποσύνθεσης ή απαξίωσης. Τα «υποπροϊόντα αυτής της δραστηριότητάς» στοχεύουν στη συγκρότηση ενός οπτικού συμπιλήματος και ενός νέου αφηγηματικού πλαισίου, στο πολλαπλασιασμό των παραναγνώσεων (misreadings) και των επανασυνδυασμών (recombinations).

Saprophytes is a collective artistic project that focuses on finding, processing and assembling pre-existing material which is in a state of conceptual decay or disparagement. The “byproducts of this activity” are intended to form a visual pastiche and a new narrative framework, to multiply misreadings and recombinations.
Saprophytes 01: Atlas Horribilis. Documents of Occult and Paranormal Phenomena proposes a new narrative form—the “novel of the inauthentic”—comprising a non-linear montage of findings, reproductions and documentary material. It includes cut outs from books, newspaper and magazine articles, details of news stories and comics, museum material and amateur photographs relating to a series of uncanny, occult, terrifying, paranormal phenomena. This comprehensive and ‘accidental’ collection is drawn exclusively from local sources, a fact which accentuates the local cultural framework of the mediascape.
Such an evolving novel of inauthentic reproductions, explores suppressed social and cultural incidents and the languages of re-enactment and their functions; it stakes a claim to a middle ground between documentation and new narrative devices. Among the salient features of this exploration are the means by which the assembly of material keeps sliding off the real physical space of the page and into the fantasy world of discontinuous narration, offering a number of indications: a fluid narrative archipelago rather than definitive readings or interpretations.

Το Σαπρόφυτα 01: Atlas Horribilis. Documents of Occult and Paranormal Phenomena προτείνει ένα νέο αφηγηματικό είδος, τη «νουβέλα του αναυθεντικού» (inauthentic), η οποία συνίσταται σε ένα μη γραμμικό μοντάζ ευρημάτων, αναπαραγωγών (reproductions) και υλικού τεκμηρίωσης (documentarymaterial). Περιλαμβάνει αποκόμματα (cut outs) από βιβλία, δημοσιεύματα εφημερίδων και περιοδικών, λεπτομέρειες της ειδησεογραφίας (photojournalism) και εικονογραφημένων εκδόσεων, ερασιτεχνικές (amateur) φωτογραφίες και μουσειολογικό υλικό γύρω από μια σειρά ανοίκεια (uncanny), αποκρυφιστικά, τρομακτικά και παραφυσικά (paranormal) φαινόμενα. Η περιεκτική (comprehensive) και τυχαία (accidental) αυτή συλλογή προέρχεται αποκλειστικά από τοπικές (local) πηγές, αναδεικνύοντας το τοπικό πολιτισμικό πλαίσιο του mediascape.
Μια τέτοια εν εξελίξει (in progress) νουβέλα αναυθεντικών αναπαραγωγών διερευνά απωθημένα κοινωνικά και πολιτισμικά συμβάντα, τις γλώσσες αναπαράστασης και τις λειτουργίες τους, διεκδικώντας έναν ενδιάμεσο χώρο ανάμεσα στην τεκμηρίωση (documentary) και τους νέους μηχανισμούς (devices) αφήγησης. Στα πρωτεύοντα στοιχεία της διερεύνησης ανήκουν και οι τρόποι με τους οποίους το σύρραμμα αυτό διολισθαίνει συνεχώς από τον πραγματικό φυσικό χώρο των σελίδων στο φαντασιακό χώρο της διακεκομμένης (interrupted) αφήγησης, συστήνοντας ορισμένες ενδείξεις, ένα ρευστό αφηγηματικό αρχιπέλαγος και όχι οριστικές αναγνώσεις ή ερμηνείες.
